EUROPEAN KENDO CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FINLAND:
LAST MINUTE INFO LETTER
Dear Kendo Friends!
The 22nd EKC will take place next week in Finland. We are very
happy to welcome
you all to Helsinki, to the biggest EKC ever!
The purpose of this last minute info-letter is to provide some
information and
explanations concerning the EKC arrangements and also facilitate
your final
preparations and your arrival to Helsinki.
1. Drawings
The definitive drawing was posted on the EKC website www.ekc2008.com
on 6 March 2008. Please consult and rely on it.
Should anything happen before now and the actual EKC, the drawing
will be
confirmed at the managers' meeting on Thursday at 19.00 (see schedule
attached)
2. Schedule
New "definitive draft schedule" is attached and posted
on the website too.
Some modifications have been made to the previous draft. Note that
times of
meeting's have been slightly changed.
Please accept that this schedule is still subject to changes.
Definitive final schedule (with transfer and meals schedule) will
be
distributed on arrival.
3. Tare numbers and country denominations
The tare numbers will be distributed at the manager's meeting (except
for those
who have them already).
The tare numbers bear the old system of country denominations (for
example
Belgium is B and Finland FIN). In the drawing chart and catalogue
countries bear
the denomination according to the ISO standard (Belgium is BE and
Finland FI).
We are sorry for this incoherence, but after having discussed it
with the EKF,
we decided to live with it.
4. Compatibility of functions (competitor/coach/manager)
According to Rule 8.4. the "Referees, Managers and Coaches
may not participate
as competitors in neither the Team nor the Individual Championships".
In order to stick to the rules, the EKF has decided to remove all
incompatibilities stemming from the registration of a competitor
as a coach or
team manager. Therefore you will not see your competitors marked
as coaches or
managers in the catalogue.
However, it is of utmost importance that one of the delegation
members
participates in the manager's meeting and assures that the managerial
functions
are taken care of.
5. Cold facts of life in Finland: Room service
and night club restrictions
At the hotel, your room mini-bars and telephone lines are closed
when you
arrive. In order to open them, you have to consult the reception
desk and leave
your credit card as guarantee. We have no credit.
After the dinner at the Hotel Restaurant, the last sequence of
the Sayonara
Party takes place in the premises of the Hotel Presidentti Night
Club. This is
for adults only. Young adults, please keep an ID-card or passport
available to
prove your age.
Due to very strict law concerning access of minors (under 18 years)
to night
clubs and joints like that, we have to organise a separate
non-alcohol-vending-disco for juniors. This disco will be at the
Hotel (next to
the restaurant) from around 22.00 - 24.00 (01.00). We hope our juniors
will be
able to enjoy the rest of the evening together. The junior-disco
is accessible
for over-aged people, too.
6. Info of your arrival times
In order to best serve you on your arrival, we hope that you send
us (as reply
to this mail, reply to all) your arrival times on Helsinki airport.
That way we can keep the reception desk at the airport properly
manned during
peak hours and make your EKC packages ready at your accommodation
when you
arrive.
7. GSM Help-line
We have a GSM help-line available for you 24/24. It will be operational
from
Monday morning onwards until the beginning of Sayonara Party.
If you are in any trouble, lost or in need of advice, please call:
+ 358-46-849 6475 (calling from Finland: 046 - 849 6475)
8. Last minute www-check
Please check the www.ekc2008.com <http://www.ekc2008.com/>
website once more
before your departure. Some of the things will be updated also on
last days
before the event.
We intend to post for instance small maps of City centre and Olympic
stadium
districts in order to facilitate your arrival to Hotel and Hostel.
Practical info will be updated too before the EKC starts (shopping
times etc.).
Check also the weather forecast on practical tips section. Winter
has been mild
this year, but weather can be very variable.
In agreement with the EKF, on behalf of the EKC
Organising Committee, yours,
Pekka Nurminen
Chair
